Original Arabic

مدينة تعتلي الجبال.

Published English

A spectacular destination in the mountains

Reviewed English

Rationale

The Arabic opens with a visual image of elevation. The weaker English turns it into generic tourism language. The reviewed line restores a clearer sense of place.

Quality is hard to judge when it involves a language you do not speak.

My approach

01

Meaning first

What does the text need the reader to understand?

02

Natural language

Does the final text read naturally on its own?

03

Terminology

Are names, concepts and specialist terms accurate and consistent?

04

Use and audience

The same text may need a different treatment depending on who will read it.

About

Hello, I’m Abdulrahman.

Arabic and English are both native languages for me.

For more than fifteen years, I have worked as an interpreter, translator and editor on projects in international sport, governance and public policy, finance, humanitarian work, publishing, scholarship and cultural heritage.

That work has included live interpreting, translation, localisation, revision, editorial review and English copy for organisations, institutions and publishers working with sensitive or public-facing material.
